“Why” by Josh Ritter
“Why spend your only life waiting
to have what you know you can have?
Why spend your only life hoping?
what a torture to be always blue darlin’.
Why spend your only life waiting
to do what you know you can do?
What’s the worst thing that can possibly
happen to you?”
This is what I feel like.
I wonder.
I really do.
Everyone believes in something; I believe I'll have a cookie.
Together, we (will, can, must) (rule, change, destroy) the (world, our victims, the people in this bar). ::

Josh Ritter - Good Man
You’re not a good shot but I’m worse
And there’s so much where we ain’t been yet
So swing up on this little horse
The only thing we’ll hit is sunset
Babe we both had dry spells
Hard times in bad lands
I’m a good man for ya
I’m a good man
Don’t let the things you remember ever outnumber the things you live for.
Josh Ritter - Tokyo!
The more I hear it the more I like it.
Josh Ritter-“Orbital”
So it was that everything
That went to make up everything
Was wrapped up tight inside a grain
Of great insistence
Then someone gave the great command
All things paired off for the dance
The great to small the small to grand
Down to this instant.
The hawk around the field mouse
The love around a lover’s mouth
I find my mind in settling down
In circuits round you
The angels round their crowded pins
The amber-waved electrons spin
In planetary transits
Round the ones they’re bound to.
Who do you circle round
Who is it circles round you
Is it circles round you?
Who is it circles round you
Do you circle round who
It is circles round you?
The ghost around the one it haunts
The want around the thing that wants
The way the mind just wanders off and then returns to
The thought around the second thought
Love or gravity or law
Whatever name it’s got it’s got me
Circling round youThe guess around the second guess
The hornet round the hornet’s nest
The wheel time the wheel fate
The light that bends itself through space
The light that with it carries time
Which also bends in the same line
Relative to point of view
So when I catch a glimpse of you
Every time you come around
The room lights up
And time slow too…
So Runs the World Away
the new album by Josh Ritter
“So Runs the World Away” took me over a year to make.
I’m proud of the fact that I’ve never recorded a song for a record that
I didn’t believe in absolutely and that didn’t feel, in its writing, recording, and performance, like a moment of real inspiration. I love the songs on this record so much, and my thanks go to my incredible and talented band, my family, and my family of listeners wherever they may be in this fast-spinning world.
All my very best, and see you soon!
Josh
“Rosanne Cash was spot-on when she said that the first line of ‘Kathleen’ may be one of the best ways ever to begin a song: ‘All the other girls here are stars - you are the Northern Lights.’ And what is going on in ‘Wings’ and in ‘Harrisburg’? What is ‘artillery breeze’ on Historical Conquest? Why does Josh Ritter hate trains?”— Tom Ricks - wondering about a lot of Josh’s music.

Josh Ritter - Thin Blue Flame (acoustic)
…
Only a full house gonna make it through
…
Only a full house gonna make a home
…
you need faith for the same reasons that it’s so hard to find
…
it’s hell to believe there ain’t a hell of a chance
…
Heaven is so big there ain’t no need to look up
So I stopped looking for royal cities in the air
Only a full house gonna have a prayer
Everything, everything, everything is connected.
"Listen, I am heroic enough to say 'I love you' when I love, heroic enough to sing a song and mean it, heroic enough not to faint at the toss of a shawl or the tilt of a baseball hat or the flick of tie. And you are, too." --S.E.S.
